In today's issue of The Sun there was a comment from ACORN regarding the issue.

I like how they always portray the tenants as the victims here.Tuco1 wrote:In today's issue of The Sun there was a comment from ACORN regarding the issue.

More like unsuspecting landlords that prior to having the tenants bring in the bed bugs in the first place had a bedbug free rental property.Landlord licencing would ensure property owners evict bedbugs from units before renting them out to unsuspecting tenants, NDP MPP Cheri DiNovo says.
Landlords are victims of bedbugs even more than the tenants that bring them in.
Most of the time it is the tenants that make the mess they live in. They are given nice clean bug free apartments and it is the Tenants that make the deplorable living conditions only weeks after moving in.“The deplorable living conditions that many tenants have to endure have been ignored by the City of Toronto and the province of Ontario for far too long.”
Again, why are the Land Lords to blame for the tenants actions?

An excerpt from that article:
"Colle also introduced a private member’s bill that would obligate landlords to disclose to potential tenants if bedbugs are in the building.
DiNovo said she’s concerned this information could be used by other landlords to discriminate against tenants coming from infested buildings."
On one hand, Colle wants to protect tenants from BBs by forcing LLs to disclose BB infestations [article not clear if this refers to past or present infestations]. On the other hand, DiNovo is worried about discrimination against infested tenants, but DOESN'T ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS TO PROTECT A LL'S TENANTS FROM AN INCOMING INFESTATION!!!

You are right, it is a lose lose situation for the landlord. If the landlord does nothing they are in the wrong. If a LL takes steps to protect the current bug free tenants, stopping the spread into their building, they also are in the wrong.BigFoot wrote:

Small LL's definitely need a voice on this issue.
