Heard this from one of the staff of a very senior MP.

They said internal polling shows the Liberals are really high now, even without a leader, and are PC's will become the 3rd party a this rate. There is a strong push for Ford to step down and if he agrees he will get a huge celebration of his last campaign and go out as a champ. If he doesn't it will get nasty.
